In WebSite X5, there are many situations during website development in which a file needs to be imported: for example, while designing the template and needing to insert an image; or when composing pages and needing to insert or link images, videos, audio files, or any other type of resource.

In all fields where a file must be inserted, the following buttons are available:

Local File - opens the system File Selection window to choose a file saved locally.
Online Library - opens the internal File Selection window in WebSite X5 to choose a file from the integrated Online Libraries or any file saved online.

For images, videos, audio files, and animations, next to the file import buttons, the button is also available. It opens the Accessibility window, where it is possible to choose whether to set the inserted element as 'decorative' or to define alternative text.

The internal File Selection window in WebSite X5, depending on the type of file format to be imported, will display different sections—one for each source type. The possible sections are:

Images
Free Videos
YouTube/Vimeo
File from URL

All imported files are automatically copied into the project Library.

Click to expand/collapseReference: Commands in the 'Images' section

This section of the File Selection window is displayed only when importing an image. It provides access to a library containing millions of Free and Premium Images, all high-quality and completely royalty-free, which can be used within Projects.

To search the image library, simply use the built-in search engine; the results can then be further refined using the many available filters.

All selected images are downloaded and copied into the Project Library. Premium images – easily recognizable thanks to the icon – are downloaded as watermarked previews. When publishing the Project, it is possible to choose whether to proceed with the purchase: if so, the preview will be replaced with the original image.

Premium Images are offered in collaboration with Depositphotos, one of the best-known stock image platforms in the world. Free Images, on the other hand, are offered in collaboration with Pixabay and Pexels.

Click to expand/collapseReference: Commands in the 'Free Videos' section

This is the section of the File Selection window that appears when importing a video. It provides access to an archive of free, royalty-free videos that can be used without any restrictions.

As with images, the video to be imported can be searched using the built-in search engine, and results can be refined using filters by Category and Video Type to obtain more relevant matches.

As with images, a copy of the selected video files is saved in the Project Library.

Free Videos are also offered in collaboration with Pixabay and Pexels.

Click to expand/collapseReference: Commands in the 'YouTube/Vimeo' section

For video insertion, the File Selection window also offers this section, which allows the URL of a YouTube or Vimeo video to be pasted directly.

In this case, the selected file remains available online and is not downloaded to the local PC.

Click to expand/collapseReference: Commands in the 'File from URL' section

Regardless of the type of resource to be inserted, the File Selection window always offers the possibility to import files that are hosted on the Internet. In this case, simply enter the file URL in the appropriate field by copying it from the browser’s address bar. By clicking the button, it is possible to verify the correctness of the URL.

Selecting files via URL means that the files remain hosted online and are therefore not saved locally.
